What is IM=X® (pronounced IMX)?
IM=X stands for Integrated Movement Xercize. It's an elite fitness program that marries the muscle toning and lengthening benefits of pilates with elements of strength and cardio training to increase flexibility, endurance and muscle tone, while strengthening the spine and the abdominal wall. IM=X also has complementary programs such as IM=X Yoga, Ballet Bar, Jog Board, Tower, Floor Motion, Cycle/Tower and Spinal Fitness.

How does IM=X® differ from pilates?
IM=X is a cross-conditioning system that includes pilates moves but adds resistance training and plyometric jumps for a more athletic workout. IM=X pilates programs can be targeted to specific populations (i.e. athletes, seniors, low back pain sufferers, pregnant women); or tailored for a specific focus like Lower Body Workout, Interval Training Workout, Stretch Workout, Basics, Upper Body Workout and Ballet Bar. The various programming within IM=X makes it possible to address everyone from the couch potato to the athlete.

How can IM=X® help my back pain?
Our back care program (offered by IM=X Spinal Fitness Certified Instructors) provides a viable non-operative
approach to resolving general back pain. Our approach to back exercise goes beyond general practices to correct spinal alignment, mobility, muscle recruitment patterns and strength. Our unique approach towards conditioning the Spine Stabilization System is at the heart of our back care solution. Regular sessions under the supervision of a Doctor of Chiropractic, Physical Therapist or Physical Medicine Physician are effective for improving:

1. BACK MUSCLE DEVELOPMENT Decreases in muscle mass and strength as well as decreases in bone mass and intervertebral disc height are a result of aging. After 30 years of age, muscles begin to atrophy. This coupled with prolonged periods of inactivity can result in chronic back pain. The good news is that IM=X offsets these aging forces by conditioning the muscles of the Spine Stabilization System.

2. POSTURE Intervertebral compression is a result of poor posture and bad movement habits. IM=X stabilizes and strengthens the spine and helps clients reach a point of awareness where old postures "feel" uncomfortable and improved postures are fully natural.

3. CREATING TECHNIQUE It is common that an individual with back discomfort learns an exercise only to repeat it at home with incorrect form. For example, many people perform abdominal curls incorrectly resulting in spinal compression. This compression often irritates soft tissues which can cause pain. Thus, the individual ceases activity to avoid further discomfort. This is commonly referred to as "The Cycle of Deconditioning and Pain." Our back care solution focuses on movement technique.
