IM=X® Pilates Intensive

Step 1

Overview: The IM=X® Pilates 5-Day Basic Certification course begins with two days of Mat followed by three days of Xercizer (reformer) program. This intensive education gives you all the knowledge needed to begin your career in pilates and fitness. You will learn eight sequences in each program, as well as how to tailor these sequences for clients of all levels, in both personal training and group exercise settings. In addition, you will learn about the supporting research and teaching principles such as stabilization, breathing, alignment and muscle recruitment techniques. This course is delivered by an IM=X® Master Trainer using a combination of lecture presentations, workouts, and practical hands-on learning modules. You will receive a 140-page certification manual which includes photos and step-by-step instructions, as well as access to movie files that illustrate a wide variety of routines so you and your clients stay challenged.

IM=X® Pilates Mat Certification: The IM=X® Mat course teaches innovative floor routines based on pilates exercise. IM=X® has been called “the strength training version of Pilates” by Fitness Magazine and is known for its unique choreography. Learn the principles of IM=X®  — spinal decompression, forced exhalation, postural adjustments, pelvic, ribcage and spine stabilization — and the eight sequences of choreography that allow you to teach beginner, intermediate and advanced class formats. The IM=X® Pilates program uses the Ring and Body Bar to increase resistance – thus toning the arms, shoulders, hips, upper/lower back, gluteals and abdominal wall quicker!

IM=X® Pilates Xercizer (reformer) Certification: This course teaches the personal trainer/group instructor the exercise science which defines IM=X® Pilates workouts on our proprietary version of the Reformer, the Xercizer. Considerations for spring loading, equipment configuration and formatting are reviewed. Participants learn the goal of each exercise, target muscles, verbal and tactile cues, common postural adjustments and safety considerations.

Course Requirements: Prior to attending your IM=X® Pilates certification course, we recommend attending classes at your local IM=X® Studio or on the IM=X® OnDemand channel, as well as studying The Atlas of Human Anatomy by Frank Netter. The course culminates with a Written Exam which reviews general theories and principles covered in the class. Practice hours are required for each portion of the course (20 hours for Floor and 20 hours for Xercizer). Home Xercizers are available for purchase to complete practice hours. A Practical Exam is required for each portion to be awarded certification. Instructors must have a current CPR certification. Certified instructors have career opportunities at any IM=X® Pilates and Fitness franchise studio.

In terms of the IM=X® program, I was super impressed with the entire team at IM=X® when I looked at the program and the kind of support that they provide, the detail behind the programs and the education – specifically the instructor education which is a tuition-free program – was just amazing to me.”

I have been teaching the IMX programs at Bristol Myers-Squibb since 2002…I feel very fortunate that so many years back the Fitness Center staff at BMS connected with Elyse and we all had the opportunity to learn, train and certify in IMX. Thanks to her knowledge and creativity we all continue to make a difference in the lives of each person that experiences an IMX Mat or Xercizer class.”

IM=X® is a formula that packs more of a strength training punch. IM=X® pioneer Elyse McNergney leads exercisers through a series of toning and stretching moves on a sturdier version of the pilates reformer (The Xercizer).”

The IM=X Basic Certification course is outstanding! The science and research that supports this program is so sound, which really provides a strong foundation. Every exercise, or movement, is explained in great detail and provides the “why” along with the “what” and the “don’ts” along with the “dos”. I feel confident that this course will equip me and my future instructors with all of the tools needed to successfully teach a wide variety of effective and safe classes for our members.”
